Before I say anything else about Make Your Own Mobile Wallpaper, let me just casually mention that I like the product � a lot. As a Webmaster, I can see it becoming an important source of ancillary revenue for content-oriented sites. It�s easy to set up, requires minimal investment, and basically runs itself. What�s not to like?
As a consumer, I�ve got to say MYOMW ranks pretty highly on the overall coolness scale. It�s easy to use, requires minimal investment, and ought to turn at least a few heads at the intersection of sex and technology.
Essentially, MYOMW lets end-users take any digital image (500 Kb or smaller) and crop, resize, and otherwise customize it for use as a backdrop or screensaver on their cellular phones. The process is accomplished online in real time via a browser-based interface, and it takes only a few minutes to go from raw image on a PC�s hard drive to completed project on a tiny screen. The steps are clearly explained as the user goes through them, including downloading and installation of the finished graphic. All along the way the user is presented with an exact replica of what he�ll eventually buy. Even our editor in chief could master this puppy, and believe me, he�s about as far from geek as you can get and still respect yourself in the morning.
The MYOMW application, which is hosted on its own server, runs in a window that pops up from affiliate sites. The only thing a Webmaster must do to get into the game is add a few simple lines of code to his or her site, much like adding an advertising banner or other link. It�s really that easy, but with good marketing the rewards could be huge. After all, the wallpapers that come on even the most sophisticated cell phone handsets are so lame and �institutional� that they scream for immediate replacement.
Once connected to the interface, users can choose to use an image from their own collections or select one offered by the sponsoring Website. A few clicks here and the image is resized, a few clicks there and it�s cropped, add some text � and voil�! Your phone suddenly is uniquely yours.
�The application allows content providers to generate revenue from their databases and libraries of digital pictures,� says Barton Sidles of FasPay Technologies Inc., the Bucharest-based developer of MYOMW. �Prior to MYOMW, owners would have had to format their pictures for various handsets � an expensive exercise � and customers would have no customization ability. The application ensures the security of graphics and can work with both picture-protected and unprotected sites.�
Better yet, aside from a setup charge of $29.95 (which will be waived for AVN Online readers who mention this review when they inquire), there is no cost to the Webmaster until a user buys a customized wallpaper.
FasPay offers billing services � in U.K. pounds, euros, and U.S. dollars � for sites that need them. Those that already have their own billing mechanisms in place can integrate the product easily with existing systems.
