- AEBN � http://www.aebn.com - Adult Entertainment Broadcasting Network, the largest provider of adult video content on the Internet, has joined the Internet Media Protective Association (IMPA) in a legal defense against Acacia. IMPA employs Fish & Richardson, P.C. a top intellectual properly law firm and represents some of the largest companies in the adult industry in this action.

Statement from the IMPA:
�The IMPA, a non-profit organization, has been created in response to the maturing needs of the online industry. Now more than ever we must organize ourselves in order to strengthen our position as a viable industry that can protect itself against present and future threats to commercial success. Our goal is to help fight against predatory practices that impede lawful commercial efforts while seeking to standardize the way we conduct these efforts within our industry.�
Acacia Technologies has filed Patent Infringement claims against many of the top adult content providers in the world for using what is known as: streaming technology. Acacia is attempting to collect royalties for the use of streaming technology. AEBN is among those companies Acacia is seeking royalties from.
Patent #5,132,992, held by Acacia Technologies issued in July 1992.
"A system of distributing video and/or audio information employs digital signal processing to achieve high rates of data compression. The compressed and encoded audio and/or video information is sent over standard telephone, cable or satellite broadcast channels to a receiver specified by a subscriber of the service, preferably in less than real time, for later playback and optional recording on standard audio and/or video tape."
However� The validity of Acacia�s patent claim remains to be proven in a court of Law.
