Panel Topics and Speakers Announced
For 11th Annual Gentlemens Club Owners Expo
There will be a heavy emphasis on legal and marketing issues, as well as advice from experts outside of the adult nightclub industry, on tap during the Panel Discussions at the 11th Annual Gentlemens Club Owners Expo at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas August 26-28, 2003. ED Publications, producers of Expo 2003, have announced the following panel topics and speakers:
BOUNCER, BABES & BOOZE: We repeat the popular Club Owner On Trial panel this year with a mock trial and bits of testimony from real club owner court cases. The panel that follows the trial will examine and analyze the trial and its content. This year, that content will revolve around three main subjects: Bouncers, Babes and Booze. How should your bouncers avoid a nasty confrontation with a customer? Is anyone in your club sexually harassing the babesyour entertainers? Do your bartenders serve customers or dancers who are intoxicated? The answers to these questions may help keep you and your club in businessand out of court. The panel includes attorneys Brad Shafer (the moderator), Allan Rubin, Dominic Gentile, and Danny Aaronson, and Spearmint Rhino CEO John Gray.
FIRST AMENDMENT UPDATE PANEL: There may not be any U.S. Supreme Court cases hanging over the collective head of the adult nightclub industry, but that doesnt lessen the importance of First Amendment-related cases that have popped up across the country. What is the current state of affairs for our favorite Amendment? Moderator Luke Lirot and attorneys Michael Murray, Randy Tigue and Lou Sirkin will provide a concise update, informing attendees about our recent wins, losses and everything in between.
KEY LEGAL ISSUES TO YOU PANEL: At Expo 2002, The Key Issues To You session was a big hit. After all, how many times do you get the chance to pose a question thats specific to you and your club to a top attorneyfor free!? That format will be repeated this year in an open Q&A session featuring well known First Amendment attorneys Brad Shafer (the moderator), Barry Covert, Jamie Benjamin and Alan Begner. This year, attendees will submit question forms to the panel members, which will allow even more questions to be answered on a wider variety of topics.
INSIDE ADVICE FROM OUTSIDE THE BOX: This panel will feature individual presentations from outside experts on very specific topics, including:
Fire Safety at Your Club: With recent club tragedies in Rhode Island and Chicago, fire safety is a priority more than ever. Paul Calderwood, Deputy Fire Chief and owner of the Calderwood & Associates Fire Education and Life Safety Consulting Firm, will help to make sure that your club is covering all of its bases. Calderwood, who is also a professor at Providence College, will cover basic fire safety features for your club, including how to maintain the safety systems, what kind of training your employees need and how to handle crowd control.
Combatting Drugs in Your Club: Club operators are always concerned about the possible presence of drugs in their clubs. But many dont know what those drugs are and what they can do about them. Robert Smith, owner of the San Diego-based Nightclub Security Consultants, will provide the information you need about what drugs could be in your clubs, and what steps to take to keep your club drug free. Smith is currently a veteran police officer and has worked with many adult clubs, including Deja Vu.
Before You Buy: Looking to buy new sound or light equipment for your club? Dontuntil you hear what EDs Sound & Lighting expert Christopher Buttner has to say. Buttner, president of Aarvak Marketing Communications, is also a contributing writer for several sound and/or lighting magazines nationwide. Hell explain whats hotand whats notin nightclub technology so that you arent stuck with antiquated equipment.
ADVERTISING ICON: Taking a cue from the Number One show on TV, we change American Idol to Advertising Icon and have have marketing executives Jack Pepper, Angelina Spencer and Peter Luster take the place of Randy, Paula and Simon to review and critique display ads, radio commercials and billboards that clubs are actually running now. Youll see the ads and billboards on our giant video screen and hear the commercials playedand then our trio rips into them!
